Located in the Guanahacabibes Biosphere Reserve, in western Cuba, it is the International Dive Center of Maria la Gorda (Mary the Fat), where divers can enjoy crystal-clear and warm waters that average between 24 and 30 degrees Celsius depending on the time of year. The hotel is named after Maria La Gorda an aboriginal Venezuelan woman who allegedly was abducted by pirates and left behind in this remote part of Cuba.

Experts consider the seabed at Maria la Gorda among the top ten dive locations in Latin America, due to its abundant marine life and extraordinarily beautiful corals. This explains why Hotel Maria la Gorda mainly caters to scuba dive enthusiast of all levels.

No less than 39 diving spots, a generally unparalleled visibility and a world class underwater spectacle make this Cuba’s ‘must go to’ dive location. Each diving site has its particular characteristics but all are situated relatively close to shore, comfortably allowing for two dives a day.

In the morning we suggest you explore El Cabezon de Ludo, El Salon de Maria, El Almirante y Yemaya, while the afternoon is more suited for El Acuario, El Ancla de Francois and El Jardin de la Gorgonia.

Non-divers can snorkel, fish, take boat rides, check out the beautiful natural surroundings and of course enjoy the beach.

The International Dive Center of Maria la Gorda offers 55 comfortable air-conditioned cabins, some directly at the beach. Other facilities include two restaurants and bar, laundry services, a dive shop, snorkeling equipment, cars and bikes rental.
