Havana is one of the winners of the competition New 7 Wonders cities , in which millions of inhabitants of the world chose the seven most beautiful cities worldwide.
The Cuban capital, next to Beirut (Lebanon), Doha (Qatar), Durban (South Africa), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), La Paz (Bolivia) and Vigan (Philippines), were winners of the competition organized by the Swiss foundation New7Wonders, which in 2007 implemented an Internet voting system to select the new wonders of the world.
According to Bernard Weber, Founder and President of the organizing institution, these cities are notable for their diversity in terms of regional geography and urban culture.
The online voting for the cities began in 2012 with over 200 thousand nominations from approximately 220 countries, and October 7, 2013 the initial figure around 300 applicants took.
New7Wonders Cities is the third overall vote organized by New7Wonders, as in 2007 in the same process is applied for the selection of the New 7 Wonders of the World and also the 7 Natural Wonders of the World.
